Through a series of careful and nerdy calculations, we've determined that on a typical summer day, keeping the greenhouse cool and humid enough for orchids uses more electricity than keeping the real house cool enough for humans. We suppose we could take up cactus growing instead, but they aren't nearly as interesting.
