Gee, thanks.

Like many others in unincorporated Salt Lake County, we were shocked when we received notice that under the proposed county budget, our property taxes are set to rise $171.10. So we were excited for a moment today when we saw the headline in the Salt Lake Tribune: "SL County trims a bit off of property-tax bill." But then we read the article.

"A week after dozens of sometimes-angry residents appealed to policymakers for relief, the County Council voted Tuesday to erase $104,000 from a $2.7 million tab to cover property-tax appeals and legal settlements. The message: 'We are sympathetic to what is going on,' Salt Lake County Councilman Joe Hatch said. The decision will shave about 43 cents from the average tax tab of residents in unincorporated communities such as Magna and Millcreek."

Your sympathy is underwhelming, Joe.
