This formerly lovely euonymous shrub used to be full through the top, covering the width of this picture, with branches that spilled gracefully over this concrete wall, hiding much of the wall, softening its edges, completely blocking our view into the neighbor's yard (and theirs into ours), and generally making this area of the backyard a pleasant place to sit and hang out.

The shrub probably hadn't be trimmed in 20 years. The neighbors asked us if we wanted them to trim it. We said, "No, we love the shrub." They trimmed it. Maybe they thought we were being sarcastic?
