Many months ago, we blogged about hippeastrum ("amaryllis"), suggesting that you should definitely keep these bulbs from year to year because they are so easy to care for. We ended the post, "In winter, sit them somewhere cool and forget about them." We took our own advice a bit too literally -- while we were rummaging through the basement looking for tools yesterday (metric sockets, if you must know), we found these guys that we had in fact forgotten about. Blooming without light or water or even much soil really meets the definition of "easy to care for."
