Most of the trees we grow require a period of cold dormancy in the winter. We keep them in the garage where they stay cold enough but protected from extremes. It has been so warm that we've had to pull some of them out -- when it's above 40 degrees they try to photosynthesize, so they need the sunlight. Here is a Japanese white pine.
