Lost

The first episodes of the fifth season of Lost... awesome. We love that the plot is mysterious and incredibly complex, but that it all holds together in a well-thought out manner that makes sense. The plot twists are surprising without being arbitrary (see, for a counterexample, Battlestar Galactica). We enjoy the frequent use of irony and the themes of fate versus free will, and faith versus science -- you have to love the church with the science lab hidden in its basement, for example. We also like the show's attention to detail, such as opening with an alarm going off at 8:15. The series is scheduled to end after six seasons, and the definite end date, decided on a couple years ago, is probably one of the reasons the show can be planned out so carefully. When it is over, we definitely look forward to watching the whole thing all over again. How many television series can you say that about?
